Jam of the Day: Casino Night Remix by SEGA (Sonic Generations)

I find myself actually looking forward to Sonic Generations. It’s a weird feeling. Colors was decent and the Generations demos seemed promising (minus a gripe or 2) despite my scrutinizing.

But what I’m really looking forward to is the soundtrack. Well, maybe like one third of it anyway. What I’ve heard of the modern remixes of classic songs has been pretty great so far and Casino Night (which is technically DLC of some sort) is no exception. The spirit of the original is perfectly captured while adding plenty of wonderful little tangents. It’s a real pleasure to listen to. Unfortunately, I don’t know who to credit for the arrangement at this time. I’m sure the info will be readily available after the inevitable official OST.

Jam of the Day: Planet Wisp Act 3 by SEGA (Sonic Colors Soundtrack)

I’m just listing the artist as SEGA for now because the Sonic Colors OST has not been released yet and I have a list of 8 or more people who might be responsible for this track.

I started playing Sonic Colors (Wii version) today. I’m too early to say much about the game itself, but there have already been a handful of enjoyable stage themes. Like many sonic games, each stage theme has a few variations of the same tune to be used in the different levels of a single world. Planet Wisp Act 3 is mixed up quite a bit from its Act 1 counterpart. I enjoy both variations, but Act 3’s more complex groove makes me favor it a bit more.

Jam of the Day: What You Need (DIGITAL REMAKIN’ TRAX) by Hideki Naganuma (SONIC RUSH Original Groove Rush)

Say what you will about modern Sonic soundtracks, but don’t speak of them in the same breath as the Sonic Rush OST (unless of course your saying “Wow, the Sonic Rush OST is much better than other modern Sonic soundtracks!”).

I’ve already made it clear how much I love Hideki Naganuma and Sonic Rush is no exception. It may not be traditional Sonic music, but it’s great. In fact, most of it (despite being a bit faster paced) would fit quite well in a Jet Set Radio game.
